INVISIBLE
SKYS
Prologue
“Finally!” shouted Francis, “Finally I have created a rejuvenating element!” The man would have jumped for joy if he had the energy as he ran his hands through his graying hair. He had worked through the night for three days and every inch of his 6-½ feet was weary from lack of sleep. His eyes, which used to be a bright, healthy blue were now a blurred, tired gray.
“If I have made all my calculations correctly, than this new element should allow anyone who consumes it to ‘turn back the clock’” he made a hollow laugh at this, “though its more like having all the signs and effects of aging being sucked forcibly out through every orifice.
“Although, if I’m not mistaken, this element is just a touch too powerful. If consumed now, it would take hundreds of years off a life instead of 50. For a normal human, this would be fatal. I’ll have to mix it into a compound to ease it up a bit if I am to sell this incredible invention.” He looked conspiratorially around the stone chamber, “though, I, of course, will not need such diluting, neither will the others in fact, that is exactly what we need.”
Francis looked down at his notes, to double-check if they were completely accurate. He mumbled to himself as he read. “…As I combined the liquid Samarium & Krypton, ½ oz., I added ¼ oz. of Arsenic. This created a reaction that caused the concoction to turn a bright, iridescent blue… after adding the, no, no, no, not liquid Americinum, liquid Americium… I found that the formula became extremely volatile and at this point, I suffered many burns from the resulting explosions…”
He went on this way for many hours, until finally, Francis managed to drag himself away from the stone room and get some well needed sleep.
“Sir, sensors indicate that the secret element has just been discovered.” Said the attendant, “it seems to have fallen into the wrong hands.”
The man to which she spoke was 6ft. three and had mid to long brown hair tied in a rattail. He had a sad face and a hunching figure. Thrown over his body was a black leather trench coat. It seemed as if he had just woken up.
The room he was in was black-walled, black-floored, and filled with shiny, flashing, beeping machinery. The man had no idea how they worked and rarely every saw, let alone used them. There were people sitting at computer stations strewn about the room. He was currently standing behind one of them. The people using the computers were clad in black leather jumpsuits.
Damn. “Oh, crap. Who’s?” muttered Jeremy as he whipped around. “Please not The Orders’”
“I’m afraid that’s exactly who were dealing with here.”
“Well, where is it!?”
“That’s the problem, we don’t know.”
“Well, why not!?”
“We have our best men working on it, but it seems to be hidden via magic. Our sensors can’t pierce it.”
“Wait, did you say a shield of magic?”
“Yes, why sir?”
“There is only one creature in this dimension that can create a shield of magic at will.”
“Sir, you can’t mean-”
“Yes, Darkness has surfaced.”
“But we still don’t know where he is. Regardless of who it is, they have still hidden from our sensors.”
However, Jeremy didn’t hear a word of it. He had already left the room
The Beginning
Come to the place of the last battle, our way.
The woman who sent this cryptic message shook her head in disgust. “I can’t believe how hard that is now. I need to practice more.”
She undid her ponytail and let her long, brown hair hang down past her shoulders. She was 5 foot three and had slightly hunching shoulders and yet her back was unusually straight. She had a slightly crooked roman-style nose. Her eyes were a bright blue and she was wearing a long green dress with a huge black rabbit in the center.
Around her were three more people all dressed in green, green tunics, vests, leggings, or dresses. They were all standing around in a circle and looked like some kind of medieval reenactment. Yet it was for a much more sinister reason that they were here.
“Good, now that they have been called out, we can count on their being there. Now, all you have to do is to find the last one.” said a man who looked remarkably like Sean Connery. Minus the wrinkles and the white hair. He looked like a Sean Connery in his mid-to-late twenties. His hair was red, and he was wearing a green vest, which looked like it was made out of some kind of silk-like material, lust like the others’ clothes. His had a humongous black ox dominating the front of it. His eyes, a bright intelligent hazel.
“Yes, but who is the last one?” asked a woman wearing a green kimono. Her face was the kind wars were waged over. Her eyes, a deep, sensual green. Her hair was like a raven’s feathers. She was roughly 6’ 7”, though it was hard to tell because of her high-heels. Wrapped around her kimono was an enormous black serpent. Possibly a rattler, though it was hard to tell the species, as it had no definable markings.
“The last one of Us is Dragon, duh. I mean, just look at any Zodiac, and he is the only one on Our side of it,” A huge man, his size rivaled only by the gigantic black tiger controlling the front of his green tunic, declared this, “though you never know, Dog could be on our side. On the other hand, we could just find him first and kill him. Yeah. Heh heh heh.”
“Oh, do shut up Tiger. Nobody cares what you think.” This comment came from a woman with long blonde hair that she had tied in a bun. She seemed about 5’8” though she had an air of command about her, so it was hard to tell. She was wearing a green suit and stood slightly apart from the group. In the upper-left corner of the suit was a small, black rat pin. It seemed as if she had not been there a second ago.
“Ah, you have retuned Rat.” Said Ox, “ and I see you are now demonstrating the proper way to dress for this century.”
“Yes,” said Rat, “though only some people wear these clothes.”
There was an odd blur around Rat, and when she came back into focus, she was wearing blue caprice pants, a tight, green tank top and her hair was loose and dyed a bright orange. She still had the pin.
“On the street they wear this.”
“Which do you prefer?” Rabbit this time.
“I would have to say the suit.” Snake.
“I myself enjoy this.” Rat.
“ENOUGH” shouted Tiger, “please, just shut up.”
“Tiger is right, ”said Ox, “it is time to search for Dragon, the one who is destined to lead us to victory against the Interstellar Defense Corps.”
“Yes,” said Snake, “but, isn’t that your job, Ox?”
“Of course, but I will need all of you to help me.” He said, “Except for Rabbit. You must stay here and guard the lab at all costs.”
“Of course.” She said.
“Tiger, you will be in South America,”
“Check” and he took off running.
“Now, Rat, you check Japan and than join tiger,”
“Done” said Rat, and disappeared leaving a slight after-image.
“...and Snake, you go after Asia.”
“Right.” And instead of a well-dressed woman standing there, there was a large red dragon.
“Uh, Snake, you might want to choose a less conspicuous form.”
“But it’s the Chinese New Year, I will fit right in.”
“Well, okay, just remember not to reveal Us. The time is not yet ripe.
“Of course I won’t, how stupid do you take me for?” she said with a censorious look.
“Of course, I was only being careful. Now hurry, the time is near.”
And she was gone, a small shadow on the ground, making people below her look up quizzically to see only a silhouette of what looked like a large bird.
“And now for me to take Europe, North America and Africa.”
Then, he concentrated and visualized a list of the laws of physics. Then, he changed into a pawn on the list, now a chess player, being controlled, and having to live by the laws of physics. Then in his mind, he grew into the opponent, and won the game. He bested the laws, and had the power to personally transcend the Laws of Physics.
And as he did this there was a flicker around him, and suddenly there were three of him. Then, another one walked through the same door he had entered an hour earlier.
“Now than, I will go to North America.” Said one of them
“I’ll be in Africa.” Said another Ox.
“Guess I’ll take Europe than.” Said the original.
“And I’ll stay here and protect Rabbit.” Said a fourth.
He than produced three airline tickets; One to Cairo, one to New York, and one to London.
“Thus, begins The Search For Dragon.”
